Move Differently. Think Differently. Teach Differently.
Creative ideas, practical tools and real-world insight for movement practitioners working with Down syndrome and NeuroSpicy folk.

Upside Down Thinking for Better Practice
Welcome to Getting Down & Spicy. This page brings together a few years of learning, creating, teaching and listening — alongside our wonderfully neuro-spicy community of people with Down syndrome and neurodivergence.
Working in the movement space with clients with Down syndrome and neurodivergence asks us to think differently. It challenges the way we present our classes, adapt our teaching and understand the bodies in front of us.
The Down syndrome body is a very different machine and requires special consideration to keep it safe.
Getting Down & Spicy combines professional education with lived experience as a Movement Instructor, Yoga Teacher and parent, sharing practical information for practitioners entering the fabulous world of accessible and inclusive movement.
From hypermobility, atlantoaxial instability and sensory processing to communication, proprioception and equipment safety, the aim is simple: to help practitioners understand more, teach with greater confidence and create safer, more thoughtful movement experiences.
Less guessing. More understanding. Better practice.

Some stories begin with an idea. This one began with Lucah.

To my dearest Lucah
The moment I witnessed your light, our journey together finally found its true beginning.
In that instant, my love expanded just to hold every beautiful piece of your soul.
I am completely captivated by all that you are.
I'm so grateful you picked me for this life.
Love you mate
