Who, What & Why....
Getting Down & Spicy started life as Elements of Flow, a little venture into kids' yoga that grew more legs than originally planned. Ginger Mum, otherwise known as Kristin, is the creative mind behind it all. A single mum, lifelong learner and professional thinker-outside-the-square, she's spent the past 15 years studying mindful movement, inclusive yoga and finding creative ways to make movement accessible to all sorts of bodies and brains. Much of this journey has been inspired by her son Lucah, who has Down syndrome and has given Ginger a lifetime of practical lessons that no textbook could ever cover.

What started on a yoga mat soon found its way into support schools, working with children with additional needs, communication charts, props and a growing bag of tricks. Then aerial yoga came floating into Ginger's orbit via a social media rabbit hole. One plane trip, a few training courses and 200 hours of yoga teacher training later, she realised there was a rather large gap in the world of mindful movement for people with intellectual disabilities.
Â
So, naturally, she decided to do something about it.

Having spent 18 months at Westmead Children's Hospital with Lucah during his leukaemia journey, and later helping him learn to walk again, Ginger knows a thing or two about adapting, problem-solving and celebrating the little wins. Her approach combines lived experience, professional knowledge and a healthy dose of unconventional thinking. Strength, stability, confidence and connection are all on the menu, usually disguised as something fun, because who said working towards a goal had to be boring?

Getting Down & Spicy is about creating opportunities that Ginger wishes had existed when Lucah was little. A space where people are seen for who they are, not what they can't do. Where families feel understood, professionals can share ideas and everybody gets the chance to move in their own way. There's no one-size-fits-all instruction manual here, just a willingness to give things a crack, nut out the tricky bits and add a little spice along the way.

Mindful Movement = Mindful Life
Find Yourself In Nature As Often As You Can........
Ginger  (Kristin)
Creative Thinking Yoga Mum
Ginger Mum is the creative leader of this small family. She is the one who cooks the food, chops the wood and mends the holes in socks.
A single mum with a dysfunctional way of achieving goals, she has the determination and passion of a cat next to a fishbowl with an open lid.
Ginger has studied continuously over the past 15 years, finding ways to expand her knowledge of mindful movement and healthy choices for her son Lucah and other folk who enter her orbit.
With a willingness to share knowledge and create awareness around Down syndrome and neurodiversity, Ginger is always open to sharing new ideas and nutting out complex situations facing other teachers working in the same or similar spaces.

Ivy Jane Smith
Support Dog and Daughter
Ivy Jane xxx What can I say..... A Smithfield Boarder Collie who is 18 years old, she has worked along side the yoga, mat and is also known to jump in the hammock for some love from time to time. The gentle love she freely gives is astonishingly perfection just with one look. Give her some horns and she becomes a highland cow.

LucahÂ
The ginger bearded pirate
Lucah is a beautiful young man with Down syndrome and an up-and-coming abstract artist.
Lucah had a rough start to his incredible life of awesomeness. At the age of two and a half, Lucah was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia, spending 18 months at Westmead Children's Hospital in Sydney.
It was such a massive time in his life, and his little body endured so much stress, even for several years following the completion of treatment. But hey, now he has a beard and is a creative pirate who sails every second week!
Lucah loves helping his mum and is well versed in setting up yoga mats and loading and unloading the car. He loves mountain biking, camping with Mum and snuggling with Ivy Jane Smith, his trusty companion.
